Located on the edge of the Sea of Galilee (the Kinneret), the Scots Hotel is a charming, top-end boutique hotel that boasts beautiful interiors and surroundings
The Scots Hotel in Tiberius is located in an historical building which used to serve as a hospital. The hospital was founded in 1885 by Dr David Torrance, a Scotsman who decided to heal the area's inhabitants and teach them a bit about Christianity in the process. A church was built on the ground floor of the structure in 1930 and it is still active today and run by the Church of Scotland, serving the area’s Christian community in Israel and the Christian pilgrims who stay at the hotel (The Church of Scotland has a second church in Israel located in Jerusalem and runs the adjoined guesthouse, St Andrew’s Scots Guesthouse).
In 1999, the building was transformed into a boutique hotel that boasts an array of luxury rooms, beautiful views of the surrounding area and a very good restaurant which has a spacious veranda where a delicious brunch is served; it offers a selection of seafood, pastas, meat, cheeses, pastries, salads and more and is open to non-hotel-guests Fridays and Saturdays. The hotel’s charming swimming pool overlooks the blue Sea of Galilee and two different kinds of rooms are available: Unique Rooms located in the new building and boasting views of the Kinnereth, and renovated 19th century Antique Rooms that feature high ceilings and stone walls.
In short: A top-notch, boutique hotel in the north of Israel that enjoys a unique atmosphere, its very own church and the proximity of the Sea of Galilee and its numerous nearby Christian sites
