Located at the very entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem through the Jaffa Gate, the Tower of David Museum is a unique Museum that displays the history of Jerusalem and hosts an intriguing variety of temporary exhibitions
The medieval citadel in which the museum is located is an intriguing archeological site in itself which offers exceptional views of the Old City. The historic display tracking the history of Jerusalem over 4000 years, which is the museum’s permanent exhibition, is an intriguing and very vivid exhibition. However, the temporary exhibitions and the unique late night display are the truly astounding attractions.
Throughout the years, the Tower of David Museum has hosted some wonderful exhibitions, including a celebrated and exceptional glass exhibition by artist Dale Chiuly (1999), and a wonderful Sound Exhibition (2007), which sought to create an acoustic landscape and combined archeology with music, design and technology. Take a look at the museum’s website to see what’s currently on.
Additionally, the museum hosts the most wonderful nighttime display called Night Spectacular. The display uses the citadel walls to stage a most astounding sound and light show. The display employs various projectors and computer systems to create this exceptional experience. The show takes place in the open air and lasts 45 min. Check out the museum’s website for an up-to-date performance schedule. Tickets cost NIS 40-50.
In short: A fascinating museum that delves into archeology and antiquity but uses the wonderful location and museum exterior as a backdrop for some spectacular exhibitions and performances.
