Up the stairs from Rivlin Street, just off Nahalat Shiva pedestrian mall, Barood is a cosy and long-standing restaurant in Jerusalem that serves a variety of homemade Sephardi dishes
Serving as a “safe-haven” for a certain brand of Jerusalemites and exhibiting a wide variety of art, knick-knacks and many other objects that crowd the restaurant’s narrow space, Barood is one of the most atmospheric restaurants in Jerusalem. The restaurant offers a wide variety of soups (among them a rich Goulash) and a selection of homey dishes (such as meatballs with plums) and other fare. The food is simple and nice, but the most impressive thing about the place is the atmosphere and the tasty homemade vodka. The prices are not as reasonable as one might expect, in a place of this sort, but the ambiance is unique.
So, if you’re up for a soup or nibble and a drink in downtown-authentic Jerusalem, Barood is a nice and special place to try out.
In short: A unique restaurant with a good selection of alcohol, fair fare and plenty of atmosphere.
