The Biblical Zoo is a very pleasant little zoo in Jerusalem which allows for a fun family outing with children
Located near the charming Ein Karem neighborhood, the Biblical Zoo, also known as the Tisch Family Zoological Gardens, is a lovely little zoo that keeps a fair variety of animals which are all kept in relatively comfortable environments. The zoo opened in its current location in 1993 (after moving across Jerusalem and expanding since 1940) and has since become a great success with Jerusalemites and visitors from across Israel. Birds, mammals, reptiles and even fish each enjoy their own little corner in the zoo, which fits in very nicely with the mountain landscape around it. Snakes, lions, rhinos, monkeys, flamingo, ostriches and even tarantulas can be enjoyed in the zoo’s perimeters. The zoo also boasts and enchanting sculpture garden designed by artist Niki de Saint Phalle, a children’s zoo that includes a small petting zoo and a miniature train that will take you through the zoo’s various sections and explain what you see in each.
