Tucked away in the scenic artists’ neighborhood of Ein-Karem (Ein-Kerem), Notre Dam de Sion Guesthouse at the Sion Sisters’ Convent offers visitors a secluded and humble stay in one of the most beautiful places in Jerusalem

Built in 1861 as a convent for the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion by Father Marie-Alphonse Ratisbonne, the Ein Karem Convent soon became an orphanage for orphaned girls from Lebanon, following the upheavals that took place in the country in 1863. As the years passed and after the Sisters realized they had many buildings on their premises that were not in use, a guesthouse was opened. The Sisters offer various kinds of accommodation all very simply decorated and serene. The garden around the monastery is especially charming, with its flowers, quite and lovely views of the Judean Mountains. The chapel is also very lovely and intimate. To top it off, the Sion Sisters let out a music hall for intimate music concerts and other cultural events, which greatly contributes to the unique atmosphere in the place.
The Notre Dam de Sion Guesthouse might not be the place for the average tourist, but those who are seeking a romantic, secluded and very simple experience, far from the center of things will find it dreamy. It’s not that Ein Karem neighborhood is in the middle of nowhere, but visiting anywhere besides the Yad Vashem Museum or Mount Herzl would mean a taxi ride. In fact, you might be better off renting a car if you choose to stay here and intend to move around much.
