The Little House hotel chain has three little hotel houses tucked away in some of the most charming neighborhoods in Jerusalem, offering guests a laidback home away from home experience
Opening three little hotels in three interesting buildings situated in Bakah, the German Colony and Rehavia, the owners of this “chain” have managed to hit a real soft spot by offering guests the non-hotel experience in the form of a hotel. None of the hotels have more than 35 rooms, and all offer a rich breakfast, free internet service and air-conditioning. The décor is very simple indeed, perhaps a little too simple in fact, but the rooms are spacious and pleasant enough. The highlight is, of course, the local feel these hotels give, the sense of staying in Jerusalem as part of the city’s authentic urban fabric rather than as an outsider tourist cooped up in a gigantic hotel with 600 other guests. These hotels, on the other hand, are located on ordinary residential streets that are not far from the attractions and sightseeing, but will demand the occasional bus ride or taxi.
The Little House in Bakah is situated in a beautiful old building and is in within easy walking distance of the German Colony and the Sherover Promenade. However, going to the Old City or the Center of Town would necessitate some sort of motorized transport. The Little House in the Colony is located in the German Colony and offers easy access to the cafés and shops on Emek Rephaim Street. The Jerusalem Theatre, the Jerusalem Cinematheque and especially Lev Smadar Cinema, are all within easy walking distance. It is possible to walk to the Center of Town from the Colony, but it’s a bit of a hike. Finally, the most recent addition to the “chain” is the Little House in Rehavia. This hotel is situated in a less charming building and should probably not be your first choice. It is located within relatively easy walking distance of the Independence Park, which can easily bring you to the Center of Town, but though it’s not as remote as Little House in Bakah, it still takes quite a bit of walking to reach the sightseeing attractions.
In short:
A good choice for a simple and laidback stay in a cozy atmosphere that will certainly reduce the outsider feel that usually comes with being a tourist. Don’t expect too much of the décor and hotel facilities.
