Taking place at the end of summer, the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat draws jazz lovers from Israel and around the world for performances by some of the finest local and international jazz musicians

The Red Sea Jazz Festival, a longstanding Festival that started in 1987, boasts a unique vibe and a charming mix between formal concerts by world famous musicians and laidback jam sessions that continue late into the night. The organizers cook up interesting and eclectic programs each year, making sure that there’s a little special something on schedule for everyone.  Over the years, the Festival has hosted musicians such as Chris Potter, Roy Young, Dave Samuels, The Joey de Francesco Trio, The Avishai Cohen Trio, Danilo Perez, Hermeto Pascoal and many others renowned jazz musicians.

Alongside these big names, the organizers make a point of introducing less known young artists who show great promise and promoting young bands that focus on experimental, creative themes. The result is a four day festival that gets the city of Eilat into a laidback festive mood that fits in perfectly with its mellow ambience.

Note that the organizers also produce an intriguing Classical Festival in the Winter (The Red Sea International Classical Music Festival) that hosts the renowned Mariinsky Opera House Orchestra with Maestro Valery Gregiev (the festival is the renowned conductor’s own initiative). The festival includes some impressive symphonies and smaller chamber music performances and is well-worth a visit.
